The Void
The space beneath space. The Orokin used it as a road, and it used them back.
Overview
The Void is not a place in the ordinary sense. It is an expanse outside the reasonable universe, reachable only by Orokin craft. The solar rails ride its currents, and the great Towers stand inside it like lanterns anchored in deep water.
Instruments misbehave there. Minds do too. The Orokin used the Void anyway, because it made an empire of one system feel infinite. Of everything they borrowed from it, nothing was returned with interest so faithfully as harm.
One fact is load-bearing for the entire modern era: Sentients do not follow into the Void. It scars them. Remember that when you read the record of the Old War.
The Man in the Wall
The War WithinThose the Void has touched report the same visitor: a presence wearing a familiar face, smiling a familiar smile, indifferent as weather. The Red Veil's mystics kept vigil against it long before the present era, and their martyr Rell spent a lifetime holding a door closed that the rest of the system pretends does not exist.
This archive records the phenomenon and declines to flatter it with certainty. What is attested: it watches, it waits, and it considers something about the Void-touched to be unfinished business.
